When Choosing your model photo for your Phosaic keep in mind the
shape of the poster you plan to order, if the shape of your model image does
not match the shape of the poster, your Phosaic may need to be cropped or
upsized and not exactly match the model photo (see explanation of Aspect Ratio
below). If you would like your poster to print to a particular height and
width, you should adjust your model image before uploading to match that shape.
Below are descriptions of our customization options,
| Attribute |
Description |
| Choose Poster Size |
If you provide the poster size with your preview we will apply any
cropping or upsizing needed to it so your preview will accurately represent the
poster you order. If you choose not to pick a poster size for your
preview your poster may not look exactly like the preview due to cropping
or upsizing. |
| Pixel Blend Level |
We offer pixel blend levels from 1 to 5. Pixel blending is
equivalent to overlaying a transparency of the original model image over the
entire Phosaic. You can control the amount of pixel blending in your image, for
standard photos we recommend medium pixel blending, for logos or shapes we
recommend no pixel blending. The default setting for Pixel
Blend Level is "3". |
| Tile Orientation |
We accept 3 different tile orientations, Landscape, Portrait
and Square. When you choose this option we apply the orientation
to all your tile photographs and use this information to orient and crop
your photos to fit the tiles. Depending on your original photos'
orientation cropping may occur, this happens most often with the Square
orientation. Please rotate your photos to the desired orientation before
uploading and then set this option. The default setting is "Landscape".
|
| Tile Tint Level |
We offer tint levels from 1 to 5. Tile tinting is
shading each individual tile to better match the model image. Tile
blending can be less obvious than pixel blending but still helps improve the
overall look of the Phosaic. We recommend medium tile blending for a standard
Phosaic The default setting for Tint Level is "3". |

Tile/Camera Aspect Ratio
|
Aspect Ratio is a function of your digital image based
on a digital camera's sensor size. It is expressed as a ratio
of width divided by the height. It is usually expressed as two integers,
i.e. width:height or 3:2. 3:2 is the standard Aspect Ratio for
Digital SLR cameras and 4:3 is the standard for most Compact Digital
Cameras. On some cameras it is a setting you can choose. Select the
option that best represents the Aspect Ratio of all the tiles you will be
uploading. The default setting for Aspect Ratio is "Best
Fit" and we will attempt to size the tiles to the most frequent
tile Aspect Ratio. If your model photo has an Aspect Ratio of 3:2 and you
request a poster 36 x 24 you have chosen a print size that matches the camera's
Aspect Ratio (12 x 3:12 x 2). The poster can then be printed and you will
avoid any cropping or upsizing. |
| Tiles In Image |
The total number of tiles we will use to create the shape of
the model photo. This will effect the smoothness of the final
poster, i.e. low numbers will have a rougher look, and provide less detail
attempting to fit the model. We will reuse the photos you provide
to achieve the total tiles in shape, so you will not need to provide
the total number of individual photos. The default tiles in Image
setting we recommend is "5000". The higher the
number of tiles the smaller each individual tile will be in the Phosaic. |

Frequently Asked Questions:
How many
pictures do I need to make a Phosaic?
We recommend you use at least 50 pictures for your
Phosaic. A typical Phosaic
contains 5000 tile cells, if you provide 500 pictures then each one would be
repeated an average of 10 times. There
is no limit as to how many tiles you submit.
If you provide more picture than there are tiles cells, the best will be
selected to fill the image. You will need to resize your tile photos
so that the tiles are between 100kb and 1MB. Your Model photo should not
be resized.
How should I
choose my model image?
The best model images are usually of one or two
surfaces, a building or skyline, or a company logo.
A Phosaic image takes some of the detail out of the model picture, so
multiple subject photos, like group pictures, don’t always make the best
images.

How many tiles
should be in my image?
We recommend that a standard 24” x 36” poster have
at least 2,500 tiles. This
results in tile about the size of a thumbnail.
You can custom configure how many tiles are in your image and see what
works best for you. Remember, the more you choose, the better the detail of the
model image, but the tiles will be smaller and repeated more frequently.
What are pixel
and tile blending, and how much should I use?
Pixel and tile blending are ways of improving the
quality of the overall image in a Phosaic.
For typical images, both low pixel and low tile blending is recommended.
Other picture mosaic companies use heavy amounts of pixel blending to
improve the model image at the cost of the tile photos which become unclear.
Phosaic lets you control the amount of pixel blending that is right for
you and introduces tile blending which distorts the tiles less.
Pixel
blending is equivalent to overlaying a transparency of the
original model image over the entire Phosaic.
You can control the amount of pixel blending in your image, for standard photos
we recommend light pixel blending, for logos or shapes we recommend no pixel
blending.
Tile
blending consists of shading each individual tile to better
match the source image. Tile
blending can be less obvious than pixel blending but still helps improve the
overall look of the Phosaic. We
recommend light tile blending for a standard Phosaic.
